About This Opportunity

Applications are now open for the Japan TOKAS International Creators Program 2027, a fully funded residency opportunity for artists and creative professionals from around the world. Organized by Tokyo Arts and Space, this prestigious program invites international participants to develop their creative projects in one of the world’s most dynamic cultural hubs.

The TOKAS International Creators Program offers a 3-month residency in Tokyo, providing artists, designers, architects, and other creative professionals with the time, space, and resources needed to focus on their work. The residency will take place during selected periods between May 2027 and March 2028.

This fully funded residency in Japan covers all major expenses, allowing participants to fully immerse themselves in their creative process without financial stress. There is no application fee, making it accessible to talented individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Eligibility

  • Candidates from all countries are eligible.
  • International Creator Residency Program requirement:
  • Resides outside of Japan.
  • 5 years or more of experience in their specialized area.
  • Sufficient English communication skills.
  • Duo applications are eligible if at least one creator resides outside Japan.
  • Students are ineligible (except for Ph.D. candidates).
  • Curator Residency Program:
  • Resides outside of Japan.
  • 3 years or more of experience in their specialized area.
  • Sufficient English communication skills.
  • Duo applications are ineligible.
  • Students are ineligible (except for Ph.D. candidates).
  • Research Residency Program:
  • Targets both international and local creators.
  • Focuses on research in arts and culture in Tokyo.
  • Applicants need a strong research proposal.
  • Students are generally ineligible, except Ph.D. candidates
