Applications are now open for the Max Planck Internship 2027 in Germany, a fully funded research internship offered by the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, focused on Software Systems, Security, and Privacy, with internships available across all areas of Computer Science. Open to Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral students worldwide, with no German language requirement, the program covers round-trip airfare, housing, living costs, and visa expenses.
The Max Planck Institute is one of Germany's leading research institutions, with the Institute for Informatics running this particular internship program in partnership with two sister institutes. The program spans three participating institutes: the Max Planck Institute for Informatics in Saarbrücken, the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems in Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern, and the Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy in Bochum. All institutes use English as their working language, so German knowledge is not required.
The internship runs for 12 to 14 weeks, with the application deadline set at 1 November 2026 for internships starting between May and August 2027. As an intern, you work closely with a research group at one of the participating institutes and are mentored by at least one faculty member. Successful applicants are generally notified before 1 February 2027.
Do I need to know German to apply? No, all participating institutes use English as their working language.
Is the internship fully funded? Yes, covering airfare, housing, living costs, a monthly stipend, and visa expenses.
How long is the internship? 12 to 14 weeks.
Can enrolled students apply, or only recent graduates? Currently enrolled Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral students can all apply.
For students with a background in Computer Science, or interdisciplinary interests that intersect with it, the Max Planck Internship offers genuine research mentorship at a leading German institution, fully funded and requiring no German language proficiency. Take the mentor selection step seriously if you have a specific research interest, and give yourself time before the 1 November 2026 deadline to prepare a strong reference and CV.
Disclaimer: Program details, deadlines, and requirements are subject to change by the Max Planck Institute. Applicants should verify all current information directly on the official Max Planck internship website before applying.
