About This Opportunity

Applications are now open for the UNNF Strategic Needs Fellowship 2026, a fully funded United Nations fellowship focused on ocean affairs and the law of the sea. Selected fellows will spend four months of the training program at OLA/DOALOS at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. This prestigious program provides advanced legal and policy training to professionals working in maritime governance and ocean-related fields. The UNNF Strategic Needs Fellowship is designed for professionals from developing states, particularly from least developed countries (LDCs), Small Island Developing States (SIDS), and landlocked developing countries (LLDCs). It aims to strengthen national capacities in ocean governance, maritime policy, and the implementation of international legal frameworks related to the law of the sea. The fellowship focuses on enhancing expertise in ocean affairs while supporting global efforts toward Sustainable Development Goal 14, which promotes the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas, and marine resources. Through intensive training at OLA/DOALOS, fellows gain practical knowledge, policy insight, and exposure to United Nations processes related to maritime law and dispute settlement.
