Imagine walking into a United Nations conference hall with a country placard in front of you. Around you are 279 other young people from across the world. Your job for the next few days is to debate, build coalitions, respond to a live crisis and vote on a resolution. You aren’t watching diplomacy from the gallery. You’re doing it.
That is the United Diplomats Global Assembly 2027 (UDGA 2027), running 25-29 January 2027 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand. Applications are open now, and the deadlines are closer than they look, so here is everything you need to decide whether to apply.
UDGA 2027 is a five-day simulation of the United Nations General Assembly for emerging diplomats, students, young professionals and changemakers. It is organised by United Diplomats, powered by Global Peace Chain, with the theme “Diplomacy. Leadership. Negotiation. Global Action.”
It is one single assembly. Every delegate sits in the same hall, represents a country, and works through one shared agenda: Artificial Intelligence for Peace and Sustainable Development: Shaping a Safe Digital Future.
The three agenda subtopics are:
One thing to know up front: UDGA is an independent educational simulation. It is not organised, sponsored or endorsed by the United Nations. The Bangkok venue is used under contract. Say this clearly if you write about the event, because it builds trust with your readers.
Day 1 (25 Jan): Arrival & Diplomatic Networking. Airport assistance, hotel check-in, orientation and the official opening ceremony. Then comes a Global Diplomacy Forum, a diplomatic welcome dinner and an icebreaker with delegates from everywhere.
Day 2 (26 Jan): The UN Diplomacy Experience. At the UN Conference Centre you give opening statements, join the general debate, build coalitions and start drafting a resolution.
Day 3 (27 Jan): Crisis, Negotiation & Leadership. You negotiate resolutions, work through a live crisis simulation, attend a global leadership masterclass, hold the final assembly and resolution vote, and finish with the closing ceremony and awards.
Day 4 (28 Jan): Bangkok Cultural Experience. You visit the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun, have a Thai cultural lunch, take a Chao Phraya River experience and join a global networking activity. The evening is free.
Day 5 (29 Jan): Farewell & Departure. Breakfast, check-out and airport departures.
Late January is Bangkok’s cool, dry season. Expect around 30-32°C in the day and 21-23°C in the evening. Pack light clothes for outdoors and formal business attire for the sessions.
Bangkok is one of Asia’s main diplomatic hubs. It hosts major UN regional offices and a large international community. The UN Conference Centre gives the simulation a setting that feels real. A seminar room can’t match that.
Bangkok also gives you the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun and the Chao Phraya River, so the trip is more than meetings.
All three scholarship categories share one application form. You don’t pick a category. The Selection Committee reads each application and places you where it fits best.
If you’d rather skip the selection process and lock in your seat, you can register directly.
Standard Delegate: US$800 early bird (regular US$1,000)
Full Experience: US$1,200 early bird (regular US$1,500)
Delegations
The early bird prices end on 15 November 2026, which is less than a month away.
A useful detail: you can apply for a scholarship and register for a paid package while you wait for the result. If you later win a scholarship, the fee you already paid converts into a voucher of the same amount for any future United Diplomats event.
The committee looks at your achievements, your leadership and community work, your motivation, and your interest in the theme. Its decisions are final. Your best chance is to be specific. Describe what you have actually done, what you want out of the Assembly, and why AI policy matters to you.
Do I need Model UN experience?
No. You need motivation and comfort in English.
Is the application fee refundable?
No. The US$30 fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
What if I’m not selected for funding?
You can still attend as a Standard Delegate or Full Experience delegate. The experience, certificate and kit are the same. The only difference is that you pay the package fee.
Can I edit my application after submitting?
No, so review it carefully first.
How do I pay?
By debit or credit card, PayPal or direct bank transfer.
Is this run by the United Nations?
No. It is an independent simulation by United Diplomats, and the UN has no connection to it other than the venue contract.
Can I become an ambassador?
Yes. Ambassadors who bring 10 or more delegates get a free seat plus commission.

If you want diplomacy that feels real, with a UN hall, a country to represent and a crisis to solve, this is a strong option. The age range starts at 15, there’s no language test, and 150 of the 280 seats are scholarships.
The timing matters. Early bird pricing ends on 15 November and the scholarship deadline is 30 November. Because you can register for a paid seat while waiting for scholarship results, you don’t have to gamble on either path.
